The dot SE country-code TLD was created in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration procedure was pretty restrictive, so a very low number of domain names were secured. Individuals were allowed to obtain no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a prerequisite, i.e. merely Swedish persons, business entities and organizations were able to purchase a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened considerably and, consequently, the number of dot SE domains has been mounting each year.
